25 800Mhz MPSCS Feeds moved, 25pd feeds renamed

I have finished moving the 25 scanner feeds from there home in a outdoor cabnet in fenton twp to a nice building that has a very very good decode of the simulcast system.  99% decode without antennas on the radios no less.  The building is fully air conditioned and has emergency power.  This will help in the summer to not cook hard drives on the encoding computers.  I have also took the 6 encoding computers that ran the 6 digital feeds and compressed them down to only needing one new dual core box.  This means less power usage and makes room for more scanners in the rack.  Sorry for the odd noises on the feeds and the downtime while the move was going on.

25PD-NORTH is now 25P911N and 25PD-SOUTH is now 25P11S.  Please update your links acordingly.

New self service fire-alerts signup launched.

Due to the number of signup request that come in.. few hundred every week I have sat down and got a simple way for users to self-signup themselfs to the departments that they want.  This will take a great burden off the staff of helpers and myself doing all these.. Will also allow the requests to be added in realtime.  I am getting ready to launch livingston county so the system keeps growning and signup requests will only grow.  If your request hasn't been filled visit the fire alert links above to signup via the new methode.  Requests for removals will still be proccesed manualy for now.  So it's a start atleast..   Thanks everybody for your donations and words.

We have also turned on a feature in the server to remove bad/bouncing emails.  If we try to deliver a fire alert to your email address and it fails more then twice your address will be auto removed.  This will help speed up delivery if all bad address's are removed for others.  And help to control getting put on black-lists.  The alert system is doing well over 190k messages outbound a month now and only growing..

Happy New Year - 78P911 and other updates.

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR...  While it might not look like it things have been very busy for me around here for the past month+ or so.  But I have been able to spend most of the last few days working on the scanner feeds... First off not many know but each feed all 35+ has a computer just for it.  Trying to keep all 35 running has been a chore.. Not to mention the power bills.  The reason being each encoder/feed was it's own box was the software program I used to archive the audio for each feed would not take installing separate copies of itself on a box. I had put off building a server based archiving system as i only had a handful of feeds and the effort to building something that would archive off the icecast server was just not a priority.  Well this little animal has grown... Grown to something that is making management of it taking more time.  Time which I need to put towards building out new feeds or features.  So I set out to build a server based archiving system like some of the larger feed providers ( radioreference and liveatc.net ) have on there hosting of feeds for people.  After some playing with different ideas I have finaly got a system working on my test vm's.  So I have gone and purchased the hardware to build the production version of it. The hardware is currently burning in as we speak and if I can get to it this weekend will have the final con-fig put in it and launched for all of you.  The new system is real-time to the web as well.. so no more waiting for me to compress and upload the archives to the ftp server... You will be able to browse right to it and pull the files off in real-time.  With the archive hurdle out of the way I was able to look at putting multiple sound cards into one host PC.  I ordered 50 USB sound cards to get started off ebay.  With a few USB hubs I can start putting many feeds on one computer.  So for my first test since the 78p911 computer still was having issues I picked up the radio and computer from the tower site in fenton Twp. and brought it to my house where I have the 78F911 800 feed.  I slapped one of the USB sound cards into the fire encoders computer and setup the levels.  So far it has been working well.  The end game is rather then getting a bunch of cheap computers using one redundant computer per site with how ever many sound cards it can run without issue.  Next weekend I hope to get to lansing and convert the 6 feed computers out there into one and also add 2-3 more ingham county trunked feeds.

Last night I went to the tower site in howell to install gear to feed Livingston EMS and the local ham repeater.  The EMS audio will be used for the 2tone alerts.  I have been testing vhf fire alerts for about a month or so but before I made those public wanted to get EMS up and running as well.  Look for those feed links and alert sign up pages shortly.  Speaking of fire alerts the system received over 6,525 tone outs in December and sent 108,029 messages to the subscribers that month.  I have been testing some twitter integrations on some of the alert channels as well.  Once I get them all setup will put the info for the twitter and rss feeds up here on the pages as well.

Again as always thank you all for the donations that coming in to help keep everything running and expanding.  With out it growth would be slow if not at all.

Votes are in. 78F911 Feed is Launched - Other News.

Well after a day or 2 of voting Shiawassee County Fire Talkgroups came out the winner for the next new digital MPSCS feed.  I have finished all the programing and software setup for the feed.  You can view it's page here. You will see a list of the talkgroups that are on the feed as well as the direct MP3 links and flash play code.  We may move the 78f911-vhf phone number to this feed I will post if and when that happens.  I will also been going through the phone system and adding phone numbers to the new feeds and verifying the database of numbers to feeds.

Also tonight 5 weeks of fire alert signups where completed. With the move and having the flu for 2 weeks just not finding a free moment to keep up on them.  I have enlisted the help of a friend to help make sure they get done quicker. Might even get another friend as well if we keep growing at the rate we do.  197 different signups in that 5 weeks of time.  I am not sure how many unique address alerts hit but some departments/tone out groups are over 200 each.. So thinking around 1400 unique address's signed up to one or more fire alerts.

Thank you all again for voting for the next new feed and for the donations of the gear. This feed would not have happend as quick if it wern't for the donations and support of you the listeners.  Let's keep growning and adding more feeds. As there is support for the other feeds.
