With the other station closed because of manpower cuts it took them 11 minutes to get on scene and they were at the station. Those kids might of had a chance if the station had been manned, this is just a sign of things to come. They are doing the same thing in bay city by closing a fire station because they don't want to fund there pay. Wake up Mr. Mayor how many more lives has to be lost because of budget cuts. Your own firemen have said that with the amount of fire that they did not have enough man power at the start.

I am vehemently opposed to closing fire stations and laying off firefighters. Manpower levels do affect what firefighters can and can not do at a fire scene. But after listening to the audio, it's unlikely any fire station, unless they were right next door, could have saved those children. What the public has to understand is that fire doubles every 20 to 30 seconds. You CAN NOT depend on the fire department to save you. GET OUT and call the fire department.
If the smoke detectors were working, as the Flint Housing Commission says, then they should have woke the 28 year old man up. Giving him time to get the children and escape. That's assuming that he hears them and then doesn't panic.
In my opinion, there were attempts to put the fire out and a delay in calling the fire department. And well intended actions that actually made the situation worse. For example, breaking a window in an attempt to save one of the children. My only question to Flint Fire is this...if manpower is a problem, then why did you wait so long, at least 20 minutes, to call for mutual aid? And finally, let this be a wake-up call to Flint mayor Dayne Walling and members of city council, your family could be next! Stop cutting firefighters!
